Position Summary
The Radiation Safety Office is seeking a self-motivated candidate to assist with the day-to-day technical and administrative activities for our department. The student selected for this position must have good organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task and prioritize, and work closely with other members of the team. A basic knowledge of the physics of ionizing radiation is preferred, but not required for this position, however the student selected may on occasion be asked to describe or provide technical guidance to end users of radioactive materials and radiation-producing machines during activities on both HSC and main campuses.
The position is Monday through Friday, 20 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling.
Under general supervision, the successful candidate will perform technical duties, offer customer service to faculty and staff, and provide administrative support as directed by full-time staff members.
The duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Receiving, processing, and delivering packages containing radioactive material
- Performing daily quality control and operational checks of radiation measurement instrumentation
- Preparing and analyzing samples, and recording results•
- Assisting the Health Physicist(s) with annual calibration of portable radiation survey instrumentation
- Collecting and distributing individual monitoring devices (radiation badges)
- Preparing rooms for inpatient and outpatient therapies
- Assisting with upkeep of fleet vehicles
•Scanning and archiving dosimetry reports
- Providing day-to-day operational support to include answering phones, performing data entry, running errands, sorting and distributing mail, making copies, and tending to additional administrative duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
•Knowledge in radiation physics, specifically nuclear transformations, radioactivity, radiation's interactions with matter, and dose/exposure.
•Familiarity with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
•Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
•Word processing and/or data entry skills
•Ability to prepare and print routine correspondence, labels, and/or other basic written material
•Skill in the use of operating basic office equipment
Ability to multi-task
