Job Description

SUMMARY

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of power plant and all associated equipment in accordance with procedures, guidelines, and operating directives in effect. Perform multi-skilled operations duties and responsibilities.  Has the ability to perform operational duties including all associated plant and well field responsibilities. Trains and guides less experienced operations personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed)

  • Adheres to, supports and complies with all company safety and environmental policies and practices. Ensures all employees, contractors and visitors conduct themselves safely and within company policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Understands and follows proper procedures for control and shipment of all hazardous waste streams.
  • Under the supervision of the Senior Operator conducts activities at the power plant, including startups, shutdowns, load changing operation on the plant, controls all auxiliary equipment systems and supporting equipment.
  • Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions. Completes chemical analysis in accordance with procedures at specified intervals. Computes and reviews various logs and reports regarding flows, pressures, temperatures levels and other information. Communicates with shift changing plant personnel to confirm equipment status, load schedule and changes.
  • Monitors all parameters of the power plant for trends and abnormalities. Under the supervision of the Senior Operator and/or Operator I, corrects abnormal conditions when found. Reports abnormal conditions to the Operator I and/or Senior Operator.
  • Maintains the plant area, shop equipment, tools and grounds in a clean and safe condition at all times.
  • Takes immediate corrective action in response to emergency situations to minimize safety hazards and to reduce damage or downtime to the plant and its equipment.
  • Performs corrective, predictive, and preventive maintenance as directed on electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and/or water systems. Compiles records and reports, and maintains a daily log.
  • Operates various pieces of heavy equipment, such as forklifts, machine tools and electrical test equipment in the performance of operation work.
  • Reads, interprets, and implements technical information such as electrical drawings, manufacturer’s data, and operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Trains to improve personal skills and the skills of co-workers related to the job and/or required advancement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred but not required; completion of applicable technical or vocational training, including completion of all required NUS Training books and Operator III qualifications;  or equivalent combination of education and experience; 1-3 years power plant operations experience. Desired qualifications:  Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment, systems construction, capacity limitations, theories of operation and operating procedures. Knowledge of plant design and equipment locations, valve configurations, and normal range of flows, temperatures, levels, etc, for common production levels. Safe use of tools, plant safety rules, probable causes of equipment and systems malfunctions. Operational knowledge of heavy equipment. Basic knowledge of water chemistry and electrical test equipment and troubleshooting. Basic to intermediate computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
